The Innate Diet also known as the the paleolithic diet (abbreviated Paleo diet) or the hunter-gatherer diet, is a life time nutritional eating plan based on the ancient diet of wild plants and animals, that various human species consumed during the Paleolithic era. A period of about 2.5 million years duration that ended around 10,000 years ago with the development of agriculture.
Centered on commonly available modern foods, the Innate Diet consists mainly of grass-fed pasture raised meats, fish, organic free range fowl, vegetables, fruit, roots, berries and nuts, and excludes grains, legumes, dairy products, salt, refined sugar, and processed foods and processed oils.
According to S. Boyd Eaton, "we are the heirs of inherited characteristics accrued over millions of years; the vast majority of our biochemistry and physiology are tuned to life conditions that existed before the advent of agriculture some 10,000 years ago. Genetically our bodies are virtually the same as they were at the end of the Paleolithic era some 20,000 years ago."
Paleolithic nutrition has its roots in evolutionary biology and is a common theme in evolutionary medicine. The reasoning underlying this nutritional approach is that humans were eating innately for millions of years!
Just as a Panda eats Bamboo, the human species eats a Innate Diet
It has only been in the last 10,000 years since the invention of agriculture that such major changes occurred in the human diet, natural selection has had too little time to make the optimal genetic adaptations to the new diet.
10,000 years is a drop in the ocean of human evolution!
The reality is that the disease of civilization such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes are simply a result of our physiology not being able to adapt to a western based diet, exercise and movement patterns and chronic stress
More than 70% of the total daily energy consumed by all people in the Australia comes from foods such as dairy products, cereals, refined sugars, refined vegetable oils and alcohol. Excessive consumption of these toxic Neolithic and Industrial era foods is a major contributing factor to the current epidemic levels of obesity, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer in Australia and other contemporary Western populations.
In a nut shell,
If you can smack it over the head, pick it from a tree or pull it from the ground, (avoiding grains and legumes) it is probably going to be Innate
If it is grains, dairy, legumes or man made. Don't eat it!
The Innate Lifestyle Program allows you to easily and gradually transition to this type of diet. It is not "all or nothing". You NEVER give up anything until you are ready to give it up.
