SPINAL HEALTH WEEK 2013

Spinal Health Week 2013 (formerly National Chiropractic Care Week)

A healthy spine means a healthier life. Spinal Health Week, a national initiative run by the Chiropractors' Association of Australia, is for chiropractors to educate Australians about the importance of spinal health in improving overall health and wellness.

LET'S GET BACK TO OUR BEST

This year's theme, Let's Get Back to Our Best, will focus on the benefits of improving postural fitness as well as speaking to the broader public of the need to support chiropractic care and research.
Launching Spinal Health Week 2013, Andrew McNamara, CEO of the Chiropractors' Association of Australia said, "Australians have got it right and sitting may well be the new smoking".

Over two million Australians have back problems each year. The consequences of back pain are serious – it affects families, lifestyle and productivity. People with back problems report 2.5 times more disorders, such as depression.

Healing Wave Chiropractic have WON the 2013 Sparke Helmore Corporate Triathlon teams event for the 5th consecutive year. The Triathlon festival held on Sunday 17th March 2012 at the Newcastle foreshore attracted a field of over 2000 participants in the traditional short course team relay format. We entered 14 teams and won places in 12 categories, including two 1st places. An incredible outcome considering we won 7 categories last year with double the number of teams. Congratulations to everyone involved, Champion effort!

Special mention to Dr. David Diehm, his wife Kath and our Office Managers Sharlene and Robyn for the many hours of preparation, organising participants and volunteering on the day. Thank you.

DYNAMIC GROWTH CONGRESS- Brisbane, Feb 2012

Healing Wave had a delegation of 22 attend the annual DG conference in Brisbane. This year we also sponsored 4 Chiropractic students to experience the biggest Chiropractic event in Australia.
The mix of local and international speakers both enhanced our understanding of new concepts and inspired us to make positive changes within ourselves and our Centres. Such events always sharpen our focus on the quality of care delivery we provide and align us with our stated purpose to support MORE LIFE.

RECONNECTION AT LYCEUM, AUCKLAND, NZ 2012

A group of Healing Wave Chiropractors have just returned from the Lyceum in Auckland, NZ. This was the largest Chiropractic conference in New Zealand featuring excellent international speakers from around the world. The presentations were very inspiring and everyone benefited immensely from the experience . We were also kindly invited for a guided tour the NZ college of Chiropractic lead by the talented president Dr Eric Russell. This is a world class educational institution teaching vitalistic principles of life and health in a Chiropractic context. We have marked Lyceum on the calendar for 2013!

CHIROPRACTIC BIOPHYSICS SEMINAR, SYDNEY

On the weekend of 1-2 September, Dr David Diehm from The Junction Centre, attended a 3-day Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP) technique seminar. The Harrison Spinal Model, (developed by Dr Don Harrison, D.C., PhD, M.S.E.), focuses on the individual's posture. Just like blood pressure, there are normal ranges for spinal alignment. When you fall outside of these normal ranges, the spine will degenerate faster than it should and wear like a car tyre that is not properly aligned. Research of the Harrison Spinal Model has been published in prestigious journals including Spine, Journal of Spinal Disorders, Journal of Orthopedic Research, and Clinical Biomechanics.
David will share new information from this seminar with his colleagues during internal clinical training.

HEALING WAVE SEMINAR SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED

The SCHOLARSHIP includes return airfares to LA, transfers, 4 nights accommodation and registration to the conference and black tie speaker’s dinner.

1st HEALING WAVE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP NIGHT

CHIROPRACTIC CAREERS NIGHT- Dr Eric Russell

On Friday 22nd June Healing Wave hosted a Chiropractic career night at the Apollo Hotel in Newcastle. Thirty eight student aged 15-24 were informed and entertained by Dr Eric Russell, President of the NZ College of Chiropractic. It was a very successful evening with many parents and children staying on to discuss their future options. To our knowledge it was the first Chiropractic careers night ever held in Newcastle. Given the success we intend to make it an annual event.

VITAL HEALTH TOUR- Dr Sarah Farrant & Cyndi O'Meara

Healing Wave had great pleasure hosting Dr Sarah Farrant (Chiropractor) and Cyndi O'Meara (Nutritionist) on Tuesday May 8th at City Hall, Newcastle. Over 320 people enjoyed energetic and informative presentations focusing on the the Wellness Paradigm and Paleo-type nutrition. During the intermission people had an opportunity to explore the trade displays and sample various products. It was a truly memorable evening.

The following day Healing Wave staff were privileged to have Sarah speak at our monthly group training. Her preparation, professional experience and depth of knowledge were thought provoking for all.

Special mention to our supporters on the evening; Brent from Organic Feast, Sharon from Thermomix, Bryce from Primal Fitness and Jason from Oliver's Real Food.

Healing Wave Chiropractic have WON the 2012 Sparke Helmore / NBN Television Triathlon teams event for the 4th consecutive year. The Triathlon festival held on Sunday 18th March 2012 at the Newcastle foreshore attracted a field of over 2000 participants in the traditional short course team relay format. We entered 27 teams and won places in 7 categories including 1st place in the mens open and 120+.

The team prize is "Cocktail Party" to be held on the 30th of June. We would like thank everyone who competed for Healing Wave. We would like to especially thank our fantastic staff who always generously offer their time to make the day fun for everyone. Special mention to Dr. David Diehm who works tirelessly behind the scenes for many months to coordinate this event. We look forward to competing again in 2013! Training starts NOW!

Healing Wave Wins ISOBAR - Fitness Studio Challenge

An outstanding item from our previous Sparke Helmore NBN Triathlon wrap up, was to announce that Healing Wave have once again smashed the field in this competition. In doing so they have now taken out the title 4 years running . How do they do it, you ask? With over 80 participants, it's not hard to work it out. They will be celebrating at Isobar at Honeysuckle with their $1000 party prize. http://www.hevents.net/

5TH ANNUAL CALJAM CONFERENCE- Los Angeles, Feb 2012

We have returned from the most exciting Chiropractic Event on the planet. 1800 delegates were treated to a buffet of high quality presenters, many regarded as leaders in their respective disciplines. The 3 day conference had a rock theme that created the perfect backdrop to entertain the audience between speakers.

Following day one we were fortunate enough to attend the gala ball and mix with the speakers. The photos above show Dr. Jeanne Ohm, paediatric specialist (left), Dr Brad Glowaki, Marketing Guru (middle) and Dr Guy Riekeman, Head of Life Chiropractic College (right). The line up was amazing! We are sure to have a Healing Wave presence at the 6th annual CALJAM next year.
